Dorinda Rickels
Mathematics Director
- Dorinda Rickels was an AP® Math Lead Teacher for the Dallas Independent School District for 4 years before coming to Advanced Placement Strategies™ in 2006.
- She has 35 years of experience as a classroom teacher of mathematics, ranging from intermediate school to all levels of high school mathematics to Advanced Placement® AB and BC Calculus
- As math department chairman at DeSoto High School for 20 years, she led one of the first vertical math teams in the state of Texas and has 15 years of experience in working with vertical teams and AP incentive programs.
- She taught AB and BC Calculus at the Science and Engineering Magnet High School in Dallas from 2000 to 2006. During those years, the number of students passing AP Calculus exams at the school increased from 38 in 2000 to 118 in 2006. These results earned the school the distinction of being the number one school in the nation for the number of minority students passing AP Calculus exams.
- In 2005, her BC Calculus results were recognized as number one in the world in the College Board's AP Report to the Nation.
- Dorinda has extensive experience as a trainer of mathematics teachers and has been a presenter at College Board, Gifted and Talented, and Magnet School Conferences.
- In 2004, she was awarded the Siemens Award for her outstanding contribution to Advanced Placement mathematics.
- Dorinda has a Bachelors degree in mathematics from Texas Christian University and a Masters degree in secondary education from the University of North Texas .
