Alan Cotten
Science Coordinator
- Before joining AP Strategies™ in July 2005 , Alan was the chairperson of the Carroll Senior High science department as well as a member of the K-12 Science Vertical Team and K-12 Advanced Academic Vertical Team.
- He taught 10 different science classes during his tenure at Carroll Senior High including AP® Biology and innovative classes such as Forensic Sciences and Medical Terminology.
- In 1999, he spent the summer at Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in preparation for the forensic science curriculum at Carroll.
- In 2001, he was selected for participation in the STARS program at Southwestern Medical Center and conducted research on Kv 3.1 & Kv 3.3 potassium channels in the neurology lab of Rolf Joho.
- He pioneered the Carroll Medical Academy , the first year of which every 9th grade student took and passed the AP® Biology test with a 3 or higher. Of the 16 freshmen taking the test, 12 made 4's and 5's.
- In 2005, 43 of his 44 students passed the AP® Biology test with a combined average of 4.02.
