The O’Donnell Foundation’s Fifteenth Year Partnership with the Arts

In 1994, the O’Donnell Foundation created an AP Arts Incentive Program to motivate high school students’ interest and success in two rigorous college-level arts courses: AP Studio Art and AP Art History.
The AP Music Theory program was added in 1998. Currently, twenty-eight AP Studio Art and Art History teachers, twelve AP Music Theory teachers, and thirty-seven Pre-AP teachers from twenty Dallas-area high schools and seventeen middle schools participate in the program.

Courses offered include AP Art History, AP Studio Art Drawing, AP Studio Art 2D Design, AP Studio Art 3D Design, and AP Music Theory. Pre-AP courses may include any classes that prepare
students for AP arts courses.

In the fifteen-year history of the program, more than 8,000 arts and music students have benefited from the O’Donnell Foundation’s AP incentive programs. Last year, graduating seniors earned $9,962,044 in scholarships.

Creative education builds essential skills for success in the 21st century workforce. Arts and music education stimulates innovation through risk taking, cultivates critical thinking in the face of
ambiguity, and develops a greater understanding of diverse cultures.
